Donald L. Smith, 85, of Millbury, Ohio passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Fremont, Ohio on March 21, 1926 to George and Hazel (Hessick) Smith. Don was a veteran of U.S. Navy and served during World War II. On November 29, 1947, he married Wilma Lapish. He was the owner of D.L. Smith Pony Rides and worked various county and state fairs, as well as various school festivities. He was an avid collector of records. Don was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. His various memberships included the Wood County Zenobia Shrine Hillbillies Turkey Foot Clan #75, American Legion #324, Eagles #2291 and Moose Lodge #1286 in Fremont. Surviving are his loving wife, Wilma; children, Marsha (Jerry) Shook, Melinda (James) Boyer and Gary (Robin) Smith; grandchildren, Bill (Mandi) Sparks, Shawn (Heidi) Sparks, Tina Miller, and Andy Smith; 9 great grandchildren; brother Paul (Phyllis) Smith; Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert A. and James W. Smith. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:00 am in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1930 Bradner Road, Northwood. Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
