Donald W. Soll, 72, of Toledo, OH, passed away quietly in his home on Friday, December 12, 2003, after an extended illness. Don was born February 2, 1931, to David and Gertrude. Don proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He has been a member of the Boilermakers Union 85 for 30 years. Don can best be described as a caring and generous man who loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and cooking large meals. Don was an avid stamp and coin collector.
Surviving is the love of his life, Connie. Their unique relationship meant the world to Don and brought daily surprises to the entire family. Their dedication to each other through the good times and the bad strengthened their love and commitment to each other and was a true display of what love can be.
Don and Connie's son, Kevin W. (Nicole), shared a very close and dedicated relationship with his father. He gave his dad strength and encouragement that helped him overcome many obstacles. Kevin's love was Don's inspiration for life as he dealt daily with his disability. The love they shared was unique onto itself. Kevin blessed his father with three wonderful grandchildren, Justin, Aaron and Kallie Kay.
Don's first marriage to Rose leaves three surviving children, Donny Jr. (Joanne) of Toledo, John of Las Vegas, and daughter, Jodi of Toledo, and three grandchildren, Donny III, Marcy and Heather, great-grandson, Carl. Each held a special place in Don's heart.
Also surviving are stepchildren, Penny (Jeff) Perrine, Curt Leach of Louisiana, Carl Leach of South Carolina, and grandchildren, Scott, Corey, Craig and Brian, Annon, Cashma, and Kerran.
Grandpa Don dedicated his life to his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed cooking for them, all their favorites. He was happiest when their tummies were full and their smiles were bright.
Don was welcomed into heaven by those who preceded him; his mother, Gertrude; father, David; aunt, Dena; daughter, Nancy; stepson, Christopher Leach, and granddaughter, Kelsey Kay.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Charles Mercy Hospital and Don's union brothers from Local 85 for their unending support these past several years.
