Donald J. Vild, P.E., 79, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on November 27, 2007, at his residence. He was born on February 16, 1928, in Cleveland, OH to Joseph and Mary Vild. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines as a radio repair specialist. Don graduated from Case Western Reserve in 1952 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He became a professional engineer in 1956 and started working for Libbey Owens Ford in 1957 where he became Director of Architectural Products and Services. In 1982, he left to become an Architectural Glass Consultant and formed Donald J. Vild, P.E. & Associates. Don was a member of several Glass Code and Glass Manufacturing Associations and the Oregonian Club. He contributed to the writing of several books and magazine articles including CRC Handbook of Applied Engineering Science, Time Saver Standards for Architectural Design Data and Glass Design for Sloped Glazing. He consulted on several projects worldwide including Grand Canyon Skywalk, Hong Kong Airport and Cleveland Browns Stadium. He also worked on several projects at the Toledo Zoo including the Polar Bear and Gorilla exhibits. Don was proud of being a recipient of a "Plaque of Recognition" from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Irene A.; sons, Jeffrey and Michael (Susan) Vild; grandchildren, Nathan, Mallory and Matthew Vild and brother, Thomas (Marilyn) Vild.
