Obituary

Donald L. Watterworth, 83, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 10, 1926, in Hillsburgh, Ontario to Rev. Carlyle and Fay Watterworth. He met his wife, Betty Young, at Northwestern Christian Church in Detroit, MI, where his father was the minister. They were married July 12, 1952. Don served in the US Army during WWII. The family relocated to Oregon, Ohio in 1955. Don was a manager at a local scaffolding company and later worked as a carpenter before joining the city of Oregon. He retired in 1991 as the Commissioner of Building and Zoning. After retirement, he enjoyed helping out at Bob & Joe'™s Union 76. He attended New Harvest Christian Church and previously attended Main Street Church in Walbridge. Don was an all-sports enthusiast; an avid golfer, bowler and outdoorsman, and enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends. He passed on his love of sports to his sons and grandchildren who he supported as a loyal fan in all of their activities. Don is survived by his loving wife, Betty J.; sons, Bradley A. (Sue) of Lake Orion, MI, John M. (Marge) of Oregon; brothers, William M. (Linda) and Lynn B. (Nancy); grandchildren Brett (Anna), Brooke (Joshua) Parsons, Brandon, Brittany (Matthew) Miller, Bethany, Bradley, Breanne, Kyle and Abby; great-grandchild, Allie Parsons. Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel 440 S. Coy Rd. on Friday, April 30, 2010 from 2-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 am with interment to follow in North Oregon Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider New Harvest Christian Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy St. Charles Hospital for their excellent care.
