Obituary

Donna Whetsel, formerly Manteuffel, was born July 16, 1931. She accepted the Lord's invitation to join Him in eternal life on May 15, 2005. Donna fought an unexpected battle bravely for 52 days and nights with the support and care from many nurses and medical staff at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Ultimately, it was God's will and the need to have another angel that she passed with her children and grandchildren surrounding her bedside. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; mother; brother, Lennard; sister-in-law, Patricia (Pat) Stieben, and grandson, Randy Rink, II. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Ruthann (Jim) Dile, Diane Orth, Richard (Cindy) Manteuffel, Arnold Manteuffel, Christina (Randy) Rink; sister, Laura (Paul) Walters; brother, Ken (Beth) Stieben, and her aunt, Irma Kudzia. Donna so loved dearly each of her 15 grandchildren and was fondly known as "GG" by her 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her. Donna was also a stepmother and grandmother. A note from family and friends: In this life people think it's what you have that makes you who you are, but we believe it is what you leave behind that makes the person. Grandma left a legacy without end - from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of the family and many friends through life that knew her. Everyone would say, "There isn't anything that Donna couldn't fix, heal, grow, or sew". Her creativity had no boundaries. We all have favorite foods, desserts, even plants, she would get it, grow it, cook it, create it, make it, draw it. or paint it. She would always tell you "Grandma made it just for you with all her love". In closing, Grandma was home to everyone. Family, friends, neighbors. and strangers knew grandma's kindness, thoughtfulness. and genuine concern for all of God's creation making this world a better place to live with her in it. She will always be greatly missed by everyone she touched, the children she helped shape and lives she enriched. She will always be remembered for her beautiful spirit, fabulous home cooking, the endless support and love she showed to us and to others. We are all grateful to have known her.
