Obituary

Doris May (Ueberrroth) Smith, 83, of Assumption and east Toledo passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. She was the daughter of Peter B. and Mary T. (Hughes) Mossing. Doris was preceded in death by brothers, Cletus, Lawrence, Norb and Earl Mossing and sister, Rita Olman. She is survived by brothers, Robert (Joan) and Kenneth (Mary Ellen) Mossing, and sister, Eileen (Fred) Nelson. She was also preceded in death by husbands, George Edward "Eddie" Ueberroth (46-85), Keith Smith (90-96) and Edward Smith (03-08) and step-daughter Bonnie Haney. She is survived by her children, Peter (Eileen) Ueberroth, Ricky Lee Ueberroth of Florida, Kathleen (Mark) Dominique of Swanton, Joseph (Andrea) Ueberroth, and Marcia (Wayne) Myers, nine stepchildren and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Doris was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW in Lyons, Ohio. She was a past member of the Altar-Rosary Society of Our Lady of Mercy parish in Lyons and was a past President and long time member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Altar-Rosary Society. She had also been a member of Holy Trinity parish in Assumption for a number of years prior to her last illness. Doriss most notable accomplishment was being the organizer and leader of The Kitchenettes. This was a kazoo band that dressed in calico dresses, made homemade instruments from ordinary kitchen implements, such as, funnels and egg beaters, performed standard musical hits, such as "Alley Cat", and skits arranged around these musical pieces. Her favorite skit was her imitation of Carol Burnetts "Charwoman" character. The Kitchenettes began in 1958 and continued playing until 1972. The band performed for hundreds of social, non-profit organizations and nursing homes over its nearly 15 year lifetime.  Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 1-8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Monday at 9:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Thomas Aquinas Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy in Doris memory can be made to the Helping Hands at St. Louis or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Visitation: Sunday, 2-9 p.m. Services: Monday, 10:00 a.m.
