Dorothy K. Besgrove, 84, of Oregon, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg Inpatient Unit after a brief but courageous battle with heart disease. Dorothy was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 14, 1922, to Arthur and Elizabeth (Wackerlin) Gentz. She was retired from the Oregon City Schools where she had served as an administrative assistant in the Board of Education office. Previously, she had held secretarial and accounting positions with Libbey Glass, Owens Illinois and Dodd's Flowers and Gifts (now Bartz Viviano). Dorothy was a graduate of Clay High School and Davis Business College and was a lifelong member of First St. John Lutheran Church, Toledo where she served faithfully in many capacities over the years. She was also a past member of the Flamettes Ladies Auxiliary of Oregon Fire Station #1. As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dorothy enjoyed making a comfortable home for her family and was a gifted cook and baker. She enjoyed many leisure activities including bowling, traveling, entertaining guests, reading, needlework, and playing card and board games of all types. More than anything else, she enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. With her sweet disposition and beautiful smile, Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her best friend and loving husband of 58 years, Frederick "Bill" Besgrove; children, James (Kathleen) and Richard (Christina Wagoner) Besgrove; grandchildren, Derek, Ashlee (fiance, Jeffrey Pax) and Kendyll; sister-in-law, Donna Besgrove of Iowa City, Iowa, Helen Brower of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Thelma (Jake) Bustad of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; godson, Larry Ulery and special cousin, Omajean Roper. Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Virginia Gentz; parents -in- law, Frederick and Orleana (Meinke) Besgrove and Erwin and Ruth (Ramsey) Polmateer; sister-in-law, Bette Stevenson and brothers-in-law, Garry Besgrove, Daniel Brower and Clayton Stevenson. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road at Starr Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Road, Toledo where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to express special thanks to the nursing staffs of Toledo and Flower Hospitals, Arbors of Sylvania and Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, for the exceptional care given to Dorothy during her illness.
