Dorothy E. Oppe, 90, of Curtice, Ohio and formerly of Oregon, Ohio passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Genoa Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Monroe County, Michigan on January 5, 1918, to Claude and Dora (Mominee) Young. She grew up on a farm, the oldest daughter of 11 children. She enjoyed sharing stories of those days with her family. Dorothy married Robert A. Oppe April 17, 1937, and raised five children. She was known for her large family meals and always making sure everyone had enough. Dorothy was Vice Chairman of the Oregon Chapter of the American Red Cross Blood Bank during the 1960's. A member of the Oregon Civic Club, she had been instrumental in the Oregon incorporation drive in 1957. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Above all Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters, Ann Hartman, Shirley (Arthur) Patznick, Susan (John) Kwiatkowski, Deb (Keith) Dorans; grandchildren, Greg (Sandy) and Mark (Tif) Patznick, Chris (Leonard) Wogan, David (Michelle) and Doug Kwiatkowski, Laura (Jim) Randolph, Katie (Jake) Huss, and Rob Dorans; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Irv (Marcella), Harold (Pauline), Harry Young; sisters, Florence Jones, Leone (Clarence) Meeks, Hazel (Harold) Gillmore, Elsie Cousino; two special kids in her life, Eric and Craig Holmes. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1975; her only son, Robert D. Oppe; son-in-law, Richard Hartman; brothers, Raymond, Claude, and Arthur Young. Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration of Dorothy's life to follow at Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ave., Oregon at noon. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Dorothy's name are asked to consider Christ United Methodist Church. Dorothy's daughters would like to thank the Genoa Care Center for the love and support you gave us and our Mom. We could not have found a better place to help care for and love her during her last few months.
