Dorothy B. Schacht, 92, of Oregon, OH, passed away Wednesday 26, 2004 in Heartland of Oregon. She was vorn on December 5, 1911 to Oscar and Amelia (Hartner) Welsh.Dorothy was baptized and attended Sunday school at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. After she and her family moved to Oregon Dorothy attended and graduated from Brandville school and went to Clay High School where she was in the first freshman class. At the time of her death she was the oldest living Clay graduate. On June 16, 1934 she married Lawrence Schacht, who preceded her in death in 1989. Dorothy served as assistant organist, choir director and Sunday school teacher at First St. John Lutheran where she currently was a member. After attaining over 10,000 volunteer hours Dorothy was admitted it the Fred Hansen Hall of Fall. She and her husband were charter members of the Oregon Chapter 2665 of AARP. Dorothy was active in both Clay elementary and high schools and was a cook in the Oregon schools for 14 years. She was a member of the Oregon-Jerusalem Historic Society.
Surviving are her sons, Dr. Charles Schacht, Pittsburg, PA, Larry (Nancy) Schacht, Luckey, OH; daughters, Beverly (David) Newell, Toledo, OH, Ruth Dombrowsky, Elmore, OH; grandchildren, Dr. Gretchen Schacht (Dr. Keith Hollingsworth), Charles Schacht, Melissa (Todd) Knauss, Kelly Newell, Shelly (Douglas) Merritt, Bradley Newell , Robert (Michelle) Newell, Gregory Dombrowsky, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Dombrowsky, Douglas (Kimberly) Dombrowsky, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy also was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Floyd and Orie Welsh; sister, Helen Welsh; daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Schacht and son-in-law, Edward Dombrowsky.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, on Friday, May 28, 2004 from 2 to 9 pm. where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
