Obituary

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of a true legend, Dorothy Irene Seferian, age 97, of Toledo, Ohio, who peacefully passed away on March 5, 2023 at Hospice of NW Ohio surrounded by loved ones.

Dorothy (Savey), also known as Mom, Grandma, Great, Aunt Dee, Dottie, and Moops was born on December 30, 1925 in Logan, Ohio, the youngest of 8 children to Thomas and Ida Savey. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and thereafter worked in retail and hospitality. She met Sam Seferian with whom she married on May 13,1950 and had four children.

Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy immediately fell in love with her humor and charm, even if she was beating you in Euchre at the time. She was known for her quick wit, sarcasm, and fruitful advice. Dorothy was a mother, friend, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and life of the party. Her greatest gift to the world was her unique ability to own an intellectual conversation and instill her wisdom and advice upon those she loved.

Always living life to the fullest, she spent endless hours reading, playing cards, sunbathing, and, of course, listening to Kenny Rogers. She passionately loved The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns whom she avidly watched while imbibing on her favorite cocktails and chocolate. Being the Euchre savant that she was, it was important to her that her children and grandchildren learned the proper rules and game at an early age. The perfect mix of smart and sassy, if you've ever had the pleasure of enjoying these moments with her, you always came away learning a new lesson about life.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Sam and her beloved youngest daughter Rita. She is survived by her daughters Suzanne (Ed) de la Pena, Jeanine (Nate) Khoury, and son Steve Seferian. She was a one-of-a-kind, loving grandma to Nicole (Scott) Hayes Khoury, Nina (Sean) Elliot, Alicia (George) Harb, Dee Dee (Michael) Buckley, Tyler de la Pena, and Jackson Seibert. She was lovingly known simply as "Great" to her six great-grandchildren Sam, Mae, Daniel, Hudson, Alex (Kathryn), and Elliott.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you be kind to each other, hug your loved ones, and give your biggest cheers to Dorothy's loving memory. Thank you to the staff at Hospice of NW Ohio (S. Detroit) for making Dorothy's final days comfortable, full of love and singing her favorite song lyric repeatedly with her: "'Cause every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser, and the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep
