Obituary

Duane William Hubaker, 82, of Oregon, Ohio transitioned to his Heavenly home on December 14, 2018. He went peacefully from his Earthly home with his loving wife by his side. He was born on October 24, 1936 to Herbert W. and Pearl E. (Jeschke) Hubaker. Dewey attended Coy School and graduated from Clay High School in 1955. Dewey worked at First Federal Savings & Loan of Toledo for 35 years. Of those 35 years, 19 were spent at the Glendale branch working as Assistant Vice President, 3 years at the Perrysburg branch as Manager and prior to that at East Toledo, Point Place, and the Main office. He retired from First Federal on April 30, 1990. Dewey then went to work at The National Bank of Oak Harbor on May 14, 1990 as Vice President and Branch Administrator. He retired from there on May 12, 2000 but continued to work Saturdays at both the Curtice and Oregon offices until May 30, 2010. Dewey was active in the East Toledo/Oregon Kiwanis from July, 1990 until March, 2012. In 2000, he received Kiwanis' Hixson Award. Dewey was past president of Kiwanis from October 1, 1994 to September 30, 1995. He volunteered as an Ombudsman in the Emergency Room at St. Charles Hospital for 5 years. He also volunteered for Care-A-Van for several years, serving as financial secretary. He was baptized and confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church and married in the same church to Mary Katherine (Thomas) on September 16, 1961. They have been active members of First St. John Lutheran Church for 40 years. Dewey served on the finance committee for 9 years beginning March 2006 as secretary, of which 3 years were as Chairman. Dewey loved being an amateur gardener, working in his yard, traveling the United States, and even traveling to Germany in 1995. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents: Herbert W and Pearl E (Jeschke) Hubaker, grandparents: August and Minnie Jeschke, sisterl-in-law: Jacqueline (May) Hubaker, brothers-in-law: Allen L. Sweet and Samuel L. Thomas, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary K. of the home; daughter Kristin (John) Wotring; grandson Samuel John Wotring; brothers Richard Hubaker, Herbert (Renee') Hubaker, Paul (Linda) Hubaker; sisters-in-law Stephanie Sweet, Andrea (James) Myers, Carol Thomas; nephews Mark Hubaker, Michael (Cathy) Fulcher, Doug (Amanda) Hubaker, Philip (Kelli) Thomas, Jason (Becky) Sweet, Brian Sweet, Aaron (Monica) Myers, and nieces Denise (Sterling) Pankrantz, Tammy Hubaker, Dawn (Rob) Vandenbroek, and Jill Thomas. Visitation will be held from 2 pm – 8 pm on Thursday, December 20th, 2018 at Eggleston, Meinert & Pavley Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd, Oregon, OH. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 am on Friday, December 21, 2018 at First St John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman St., Toledo, OH 43605 where family and friends can gathering one hour prior. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First St. John Lutheran Church.
