Edward W. Berger, 89, of Oregon, passed away April 29, 2014 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Audrey (Fangman), to whom he was married for 69 years and left a legacy behind as a loving father to six children, grandfather to sixteen children, and great-grandfather to twenty children. Ed was born in Jerusalem Township, the son of Martin and Frances Berger. He was raised after their death by Dorothy and Charles Hosley. Ed worked for Shaw Kendall Engineering Company for many years, and after its closing was the director of purchasing for several companies. He operated Berger Printing Company, along with his wife, for many years. He also worked for the Oregon Public Schools as administrative assistant in charge of transportation and truancy. Ed was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Oregon where he was a devoted and loyal member serving in many areas of the church including Methodist Men, and was a long time choir member singing for over 80 years starting when he was 5 years old. His faith was very important to him. Ed and Audrey sang many duets over the years at weddings, funerals, and other events. He also served in his church on the Pastor Parish committee, the administrative board, and was a representative to Lakeside for several years. Always civic minded and interested in serving in the community, Ed was elected to the Oregon School Board three times and served for twelve years including a term as president. He and Audrey were instrumental in forming the Velvetone Choraliers with other Clay High alumni and sang with the group for approximately fifty years participating in community Christmas caroling and special shows affiliated with the group.
