Obituary

Eileen Anne Young, 96, passed into the loving presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 23, 2026 with her family by her side. Born to Ethel Mae (Eaton) and Henry Karl Helmke at home in Oregon, Ohio on January 1, 1930, Eileen enjoyed travel, sewing, gardening, and playing games, but treasured most her time spent with family.

Married to Walter H. Young, Jr. on June 18, 1954, Eileen devoted her life to her Lord and family. Raising her children, creating a loving home and working hard, she was a dedicated, lifelong member of First St. John Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities from teaching Sunday School, serving on the Altar Guild, Quilting Committee and more.

Working as a seamstress for many years, Eileen began her career at BR Bakers in Downtown Toledo where she worked until she was married. Years later, she used her talents at The Lion Store, first in the tailor shop and then in bridal and women's alterations, until she retired in 1998.

Eileen leaves behind a Godly legacy as a beloved wife; cherished mother, loving grandmother, great-grand-mother, aunt, and treasured friend. The grace that she offered with her very presence will be greatly missed. Her loving, gentle spirit and gracious personality were reflections of the deep faith and inner beauty she held throughout her life.

Survived by her children: Amy Horton, Janet (Jim) Gray, and Charles (Kimberly) Young; grandchildren: Aaron (Alyssa), Bradley (Molly), Evan, Emily (Evan), Samantha, Austin and Grant; and great-grandchildren, Elsie, Malachi, Laiklyn, Rylee, Weston, Nora, and Max; sisters-in-law, Shirley Helmke and Peggy Locker; brother-in-law, Caroll Sutphin; nephews, nieces, and friends, many hearts are left grateful for having known Eileen. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Eric; parents, brother, Henry; twin sister, Elaine Ackerman; and son-in-law, William Horton.

Special honor goes to her dear friend, Traude' Gerhardt, for the many years of deep friendship; and to her devoted nurse-turned-friend, Lindsey, and the other staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio whose care helped allow her to remain at home until her final breath.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 27th at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Rd., from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 28th at First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Rd., Toledo, OH where the family will greet friends after 9:30 am. Private internment will take place in Ottawa Hills Cemetery.
