Obituary

Eleanor M. Eckerman, 92, 0f Oregon passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH.  Eleanor came into this world on October 19, 1915, the third child of five born to Henry and Elizabeth (Knierim) Young.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marty Blausey and Ruth Shook and brother, Robert Young.    Eleanor married Willis Eckerman on October 23, 1937.  She was a legal secretary for a Toledo attorney until they began a family.  Later she worked for the Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation, and then at LaSalles in the printing/pricing department for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Millbury, OH, where she was active in the Womens Guild and taught Sunday School.  Eleanor also belonged to PHI Iotta Rho Sorority, a social organization that held meeting and other events.  This sisterhood gave her much pleasure and deep friendships that lasted for over 70 years.  Upon retirement, Eleanor and Willis moved to Florida in 1973.  While they loved the lifestyle, they missed children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters too much.  They decided to move back to this area in 1980.  Willis passed away in 1995 after 58 years of marriage.  Eleanors first love was for her family and there were many, many happy gatherings; always, when possible, including music and singing.  Especially enjoyable were summer vacations on Lake Erie and in Michigan, with extended family all together and later years with just children and grandchildren.  Eleanor is survived her daughters, Barbara (Roy) Hernandez and Marsha (Bill) Clark; son, Craig (Alanna) Eckerman and her dear sister, Helen (Jack) Doty.  She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who adore her.  Services will be conducted on Saturday April 5, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road where the family will receive guests beginning at 11:00 am until services start at 1:00 pm.  Interment will be private.
