Eleanor (Schwane) Habegger, 91, passed away December 25, 2011 at the Lutheran Home at Toledo. She was born November 1, 1920 to Willis and Emma (Kuhlman) Schwane in Pemberville, Ohio. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pemberville and graduated from Pemberville High School in 1938. Before and after WW II, she worked as a secretary in the mail order department at the Willys Overland Jeep Plant.
She married Elmer N. Habegger on June 14, 1947. They were married for over 59 years and worked as partners on the family farm and commercial greenhouse.
She was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church and was involved in the Ruth Circle and the Altar Guild. Eleanor also was a member of the Oregon and Jerusalem Historical Society, the Oregon AARP, and a member of the Genoa Senior Group.
Surviving are her children, David (Diane) Habegger and Sandra (Thomas) Garverick, sisters-in-law Mildred (Habegger) Panning, Ruth (Habegger) Mallett, Dorothy (Haack) Habegger; brothers-in-law Earl Warnke and Bruce Waters.
Grandchildren include Steven (Amy) Habegger, Michelle (Matthew) Phillips, Kristin Habegger, and Kevin Garverick. She has a great-grandson, Dexter Habegger, and a great-granddaughter Madelyn Phillips along with many nephews and nieces.
Preceding her in death was her husband Elmer, sister Shirley Warnke, and nephew Terry Warnke.
Eleanor'™s memorial verse given to her on confirmation day was John 8:32 'œIf ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'
Eleanor will be shown at Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home at 440 S. Coy Road in Oregon on Thursday, December 29 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held this Friday at First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman St., Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. Habegger can be viewed at 10:00 a.m with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred at the Allen Township Cemetery in Williston, Ohio.
