Obituary

Eleanor T. Hirzel, 76, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away at The Toledo Hospital on November 7, 2003, after a long illness. She was born on December 1, 1926, to David and Pearl (Nadeau) Hotchkiss in Monroe, Michigan. Eleanor was active politically and was a member of the Central Committee of the Wood County Republican Party. For 30 years, she worked as a polling official for Precinct 830D in Northwood. On several occasions, she served as Presiding Judge for the same precinct. Eleanor was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2984 in Northwood. She was also an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Toledo Swiss Ladies' Society. She earned a diploma from Cleary College in Ypsilanti, Michigan and was a graduate of Monroe High School. Before becoming a homemaker, she held bookkeeping and office jobs at River Raisin Paper Company in Monroe and Beaver Tool Company in Toledo. Eleanor loved nature, travel, animals, and cooking. She is survived by her husband, Alfred E. Hirzel; sons Alfred L. Hirzel and Walter J. Hirzel Sr.; grandchildren, Walter J. Hirzel Jr. and Megan L. Hirzel; daughter, Kathy R. Hirzel and son-in-law, Evan M. Rosen of San Francisco; brothers, Arnold (Nancy) Hotchkiss of Monroe, Michigan and Robert Hotchkiss of Ida, Michigan; sister, Ellamae Flowers of National City, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Pearl (Nadeau) Hotchkiss; sisters, Ethel Hotchkiss, Evelyn Diehl; brother, Clayton Hotchkiss. Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH, on Tuesday, November 11 from 4-9 p.m. and Wednesday, November 12 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 13 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. with services following at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Eleanor adored flowers.
