Elizabeth Nyitray Hovan passed away Friday, April 21, 2006 in St. Charles Mercy Hospital. She was born in Toledo, OH to John and Agnes (Takacs) Nyitray. Elizabeth retired after 34 years of service for the Metro-Parks. Starting as a temporary part-time secretary in 1942, and for many years to follow, she was the only secretary, eventually accepting all office duties. Elizabeth served under directors, Max Shepherst, Robert Metz and Jean Ward, outlasting many office moves which began at the Lucas County Courthouse. She truly enjoyed her service with the Metropolitan Park District. After her retirement, she traveled extensively with local senior groups, her favorite being the Virgin Islands. Elizabeth was an avid book reader, and truly appreciated all the assistance she received at the Oregon Library through the years. She was a member of St. Stephen's Church and its Altar Rosary Society, the St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary and the Metro-Parks.
Surviving are her brother, John (Lucille), sister, Mary Jean Nyitray, and nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; sisters, Agnes and Margaret; brothers, Baby John, Paul, Elmer, Albert and Richard.
