Obituary

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Veres, 91, peacefully and joyfully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, just 6 months after her beloved husband, Red passed away. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 13, 1926 to Vincent and Anna (Vernal) Fuleky. Betty was the youngest of 8 children. Orphaned at the age of 10, the love of her parents was never forgotten. Betty never forgot the people who helped her family through those difficult years after her parents passed away. She held a special place in her heart for the St. Vincent de Paul Society who cared for her family in their time of need and she continued to support them throughout the years. This generosity remained with her throughout her life as she performed many works of charity, always looking out for those less fortunate and never turning anyone away who had a need. Betty was devoted to her mother-in-law, Rose, loving her like a mother and taking care of her until her passing. Betty attended Waite High School before working for the May Coal Company and Michigan Mutual. She then devoted her life, time and talents to her family. Despite her limited education, she was a master of finance teaching us how to make a little money go a long way. She was best known for her Hungarian cooking and baking. You never left her house without a "goodie bag". Another one of Betty's famous talents was her crocheting. Every grandchild, niece, nephew or new baby was kept warm with one of her beautiful afghans. In spite of her many responsibilities, Betty always found time for reading. She was a regular at the Birmingham Library where as a child she cultivated her love of books. Betty was a life-long member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church. She was active in the Rosary Altar Society, and the Mother's Club at Holy Rosary School. Betty was a life member of the VFW Post 4906 Ladies Auxiliary. Her faith was unshakable. Everyday Betty would watch the daily mass on EWTN and pray multiple rosaries. You could rest assured that if you had a burden, Betty was praying a Novena for you. She had an unwavering devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and took many cherished trips to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio. Betty will be deeply missed by her family and the many people whose lives have benefited from knowing her, but we rejoice in her joyous reunion with her husband, Red; son, Rick; and after 80 years, her cherished mama and daddy. Betty is survived by her children, Kathleen (Raleigh) Taylor, Joanne (Ernest) Toth, Michael (Evelyn) Veres; daughter-in-law, Jean Veres; grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Way, Melissa (Michael) Zellner, Julie (Steven) Miller; John (Sara) Veres, Annie (Dennis) Vore, Amy Veres, Lauren Veres, Ryan Veres, Michael Veres Jr., Christopher Veres, Wanda Veres, and Frankie Veres; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Kocis; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, Frank "Red" Veres; son, Richard; brothers, Vincent, James, Anthony; sisters, Mary Komives, Julia Domini, and Agnes Chorba. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Epiphany of the Lord Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2018 Consaul St., on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Betty's honor are asked to consider Epiphany of the Lord Parish or the St. Vincent DePaul Society. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Betty's Northwest Ohio Hospice nurse, her beautiful Elizabeth Ann, for her loving and compassionate care of Betty and her family. To the wonderful ladies who cared for and loved Betty at Lane Park Memory Care, "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck; a barrel and a heap and I love you in my sleep."
