Elmer J. Pastor, 91, of Oregon, OH passed away peacefully in the hands of the Lord on Monday, May 22, 2006 in the Manor at Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo, OH to Joseph and Anna (Adams) Pastor. Elmer and his wife of 70 years, Margaret raised four children and enjoyed babysitting their many grandchildren whom they adored. He was employed as a meat cutter at Toledo's first Kroger store, worked for the former Electric-Autolite and retired from Toledo Scale in 1986. He was a life-long member of St. Stephens' Church.
Elmer was truly a Mr. Fix-it as no job was too big or small for him to remedy as soon as possible. He was an inventor, coming up with amazing new ideas routinely. He also created beautiful landscaping with many innovative designs. He loved nature and could name most birds on sight.
Elmer was a life-long learner. He graduated from Macomber High School, but his love of learning did not stop then. He read most any book he could get his hands on: most of them non-fiction. When his oldest daughter entered high school, he began routinely reading her textbooks into the early morning hours.
Elmer was an invalid for almost ten years, but endured this handicap with dignity and grace. He almost never complained and his children and grandchildren will always remember his sweet nature.
Cherishing his sweet nature are his wife, Margaret; daughters, Joan Ray of Toledo, OH and Janet (James) Alexander of Pemberville, OH; sons, James of Walbridge, OH and Robert of Toledo, OH; sisters, Margaret Fest of Toledo, OH and Veronica Anistik of Toledo, OH; brother, Joseph Pasztor of Texas; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Steve Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2001 Consaul St., Toledo, OH for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Elmer's memory can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Stephen's Church.
