Obituary

Eloise Barthold, 92, of Northwood, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2007 in her home.  Eloise was born in Rossford on November 20, 1914 to William and Eunice (Crane) Barthold.  She was the valedictorian of the 1932 class at  Rossford High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society her junior and senior year..  She received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from the Bowling Green State University.  Later she would receive her Bachelor of Science in Library Science and Masters in French from Western Reserve University.  During the 1950's she would travel and study in France and Italy and in 1952 she was chosen as one of the 25 United States participants to attend the Fulbright Summer Seminar for French Teachers. In the summers of 1957 and 1961 she would again travel through Europe visiting over 11 countries before returning home.  Ms. Barthold was a teacher at Rossford High School from 1936 through 1972.  She taught Latin, French, Algebra and Geometry and also served as the school librarian for 20 years.  Eloise sold tickets for the football and basketball games for over 50 years.     She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the National, Ohio State and Wood County Retired Teachers Association where she served as treasurer for 21 years.  She also was a life member of the Ohio Education Association.     Her memberships also included the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Symphony, Toledo Zoological Society, Toledo Botanical Gardens, Friends of the Wood County Parks and the Wood County Historical Society .  Her hobbies included  sewing, cooking and baking.  She also loved  gardening and flower arranging and provided the flowers for the Rossford High School commencement for over 40 years.   Surviving are her nieces Mary Ann Barthold, Rebecca Hendershott, Virginia Crawford, Carol Champion, Elaine Everitt; nephews, James and Paul Black, Paul Barthold and many great nieces and nephews.   Graveside services and interment will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 pm in Toledo Memorial Park.  There will be no visitation.  Memorial contributions in Eloise's memory may be made to either Rossford High School Scholarship Fund or the Rossford Community Service League.
