Eloise E. Hellwig, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 96, of Martin, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday, June 28, 2024. Eloise was born March 31, 1928, on her family farm in Graytown, Ohio to Clarence and Clara (Sondergeld) Freimark. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1946 and Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. Following graduation, Eloise worked as a registered nurse at Toledo Hospital and St. Charles Hospital. On April 9, 1950, she married Lyle J. Hellwig and devoted her life to being a farmer's wife; driving tractor, hauling sugar beets and tomatoes, and providing a home cooked meal after a long day in the field. Eloise volunteered countless hours to the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and the Ottawa County Board of Elections. A lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston, Eloise was a Sunday School teacher and member of Women's Fellowship. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eloise is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Ronald) Ayotte, Barbara (Jack) Chio, and David Hellwig; grandchildren, Carrie (Kevin) Peters, Cathy (Nicholas) Buehler, Daniel (Andrea) Ayotte, Dean (Cassie) Ayotte, and Amanda Chio; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Collin Peters, Rachel and Adam Buehler, Matthew and Evan Ayotte, and Ella Ayotte; brother, Keith (Anne) Freimark; goddaughters, Cheri Schroeder and Letha Robichaux; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Eloise was privileged to be a second mother to Joanne Pinkerton and Jenny Blum; "Nana" to Devin, Kyle, and Sam Pinkerton, and Katie Blum. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; brothers, Clayton (Jane) Freimark and Kenneth (Shirley) Freimark; brother-in-law, Myron (Marilyn) Hellwig; and lifelong friend, Marion Rudes.
The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) Friday, July 5, 2024, from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Funeral services 11:00 am Saturday, July, 6, 2024, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 17955 West Third Street, Elliston, where the family will greet friends after 10:00 am. Interment: Elliston Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Trinity United Church of Christ, Genoa Music Boosters, or Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Fund. Eloise's family wishes to thank the staff of the Lakes of Monclova for their care and compassion during her stay.
