Obituary

Elvin R. Collier, 95, of Northwood, Ohio passed away November 4, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born in Oak Hill, MO on January 30, 1917 to James and Nora (Lankenau) Collier. Elvin was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He had been employed with the Shell Oil Co. in Toledo as the terminal operator for 33 years, retiring in 1980. Elvin was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening, horses and horseback riding. Elvin was an avid marksman and won numerous pistol shooting awards. One of his hobbies was collecting police patches and he had many of them from all over the country. In his younger years, Elvin was also a deputized civilian with the Lucas County police horse patrol. His memberships included a 32nd Degree Mason '" Valley of Toledo, 60 year member of the Grand Paragon Lodge #788, longtime member of the Zenobia Shrine Stewarts, Troop Committee member of the Boy Scouts of America #160 in Millbury, Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537, honorary life member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 40, and past president and life member of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge 22. Surviving are his wife, Margaret, and son, Eric Collier (Wendy Deal). Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elma Pinkston. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Calvin U.C.C., 1946 Bakewell St., Toledo, Ohio on Friday at 11:00 a.m. and where the family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Elvin'™s memory can be made to Calvin UCC, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Palliative Care Unit at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. Visitation: Thursday, 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Services: Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Calvin United U.C. Interment: Lake Township Cemetery
