Ernest Joseph Bukovics, 82, lifetime resident of Toledo departed this life on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at his home in Point Place. He was born on June 16, 1925 to Frank and Helen Bukovics. Ernie was raised on the East Side of Toledo in Birmingham and attended Waite High School. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945, serving in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Patterson. Mr. Bukovics worked at Gulf Oil Refinery for 30 years, retiring in 1981 at the age of 55. After retirement he was able to concentrate on all his many hobbies; remodeling his rental properties, traveling, fishing, gardening, and entering contests.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Caroline (Sodd); sons, Ernest (Ester), Stephen (Mei Hwa), Joseph (Annette); daughters, Diana (Mark) Munger, Caroline Miller; and grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew, Theresa, Jordan and Devin. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frank and John and Sr. Eileen D.D.C.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Friday, August 24, 2007 from 2-8:30 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 4 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Saturday with prayers in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen's Catholic Church. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for all their kindness, care and support on Ernie's behalf. The family asks that contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
