Ernest W. Nagy, age 87, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Regency Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio after a long illness. Ernest was born on October 18, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio. He is survived by his wife and love of 52 years, Alice Nagy, Sons Kenneth Nagy and Ronald (Mary) Nagy; daughters, Judith Nagy and Karen (Terrance) Steigmeier, and grandchildren Cord and Oliver Steigmeier. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Emery Nagy, and brother Edward Nagy.
Ernest enjoyed spending family time with Alice, his children and grandchildren. He was a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons and enjoyed watching them on television. He was especially a fan of baseball and every year enjoyed getting the MLB Extra Innings TV Package from his children for a Christmas gift to watch all the major league games. He usually made one annual trip to a Toledo Mud Hen game. Old movies were also a favorite of his. Ernest was a devoted, loving husband and father and a great provider for his family. He will be greatly missed.
Ernest was a WWII hero and Navy veteran. He survived a kamikaze attack that destroyed his Navy ship. Ernest was a graduate of the University of Toledo with an Engineering degree. He worked for the DeVilbiss Corporation and was a letter carrier before retiring in 1989.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Regency Hospital and St. Charles Hospital for their care and compassionate treatment of Ernest.
Friends and family may visit the Eggleston-Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home at 440 South Coy Rd., Oregon, Ohio on Wednesday March 20th from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at our Oregon Chapel. Interment will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
