Ernest Joseph Belegrin, 90, of East Toledo, passed away Monday, August 23, 2004, at Bay Park Community Hospital. Ernie as known to his family and friends, was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Joseph and Margaret (Olexo). He was the owner of the former High Speed Gas Station, later known as the Pure Oil Gas Station and Garage, located on the corner of Front and Consaul Streets for 30 years. As a tribute to his contribution in the promotion of business interests in the Birmingham Community, he was inducted in the Birmingham Hall of Fame in 1983.
Ernie was also employed as a dock engineer for the CSX Railroad, formerly the C&O Railroad, for 20 years. He retired in 1980. He was also a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Council of the Knights of Columbus and St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Oregon, Ohio, and a member of the Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his brother, John (Dorothy) Belegrin; sisters, Mary Ann Barva and Alice Seferian; also surviving are his special friend, Lillian Keil, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Suzanne Toth Belegrin; his parents; brothers, Joseph Jr., James, Emil, Paul, Bill; sister, Margaret Wilczynski.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004, at 11:00 in St. Ignatius Church, 212 N. Stadium Road, where the Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Ernies memory are asked to consider St. Ignatius Church or St. Stephens Church or to the St. Louis Soup Kitchen.
