Esker Grant Belcher , 70, of Toledo went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 5, 2004 in the Lutheran Home of Toledo surrounded by his family. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Buster was born on December 20, 1933 in Webster Springs, West Virginia to Howard and Cora Belcher and later was raised by his grandparents, Sylvester and Susan McCourt. His aunts and uncles were always considered his sisters and brothers. On December 29, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce M. Coger. Buck was retired from Doehler Jarvis and was also employed as a hotel manager at Knights Inn. He was an avid leather tooler, wood carver, and a very artistic person. There wasn't anything he couldn't do. He even hand tooled a dash board for a friends airplane. He also had a love for horses and rode at rodeos in the 50's where he was a bareback horse rider and rodeo clown. He then became an auctioneer, which he did for more than 25 years until his stroke. His wife said he had a voice of velvet. His favorite place for vacation was Las Vegas with his last trip being in 1995.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce; daughters, Deborah A. Potcova of Toledo, Wendy S. Rausch of Albuquerque, NM, Kelly J. Belcher Cogswell of Northwood; sister, Mae Walker; brother, Veon (June) McCourt; grandchildren, Tanya Marie Potcova of Boston, MA, Thomas Potcova, of Monroe, Tiffany Marie Hartford of Northwood, Matthew Rausch of Albuquerque, and Amy Rausch of Albuquerque; great grandson, Thomas John Potcova of Monroe; many nieces and nephews and very special niece, Patty Jo Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister, Helena and brother, Vaughn.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 am in the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio. There will be no visitations and interment will be private. A very special thank you to Chaplin Mark English and to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Passport, all the nurses, aids and doctors at both the the Lutheran Home and St. Charles Hospital and the Oregon Rescue Squad who were called so many times. The family request contributions be made to the Lutheran Home at Toledo, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Passport, the Stroke Foundation, American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
