Esther Ruth Cummings Hudson Pope passed on July 15, 2015, three days before her 87th birthday, surrounded by those who loved her at Elizabeth Scott Community. She was the youngest of 10 children. Her parents were Eli and Rebbeca Cummings, both preceding her in death.
A charitable woman, Esther, or Essie as many knew her, had a knack for keeping a tidy home that she was able to welcome friends and loved ones into. She described the happiest part of her life was having a family of her own: son, David Hudson, Ft. Lauderdale, FL (Michael Chandler); daughter, Becky St. Germain (Mike), Toledo; and daughter, Dawn Klein (Mark), Monclova. Her saddest memory was the loss of her second husband, Wayne H. Pope to whom she was married from 1963 until his passing in 2007. She called him Lover and he called her Honeybun. They both mutually agreed that they were meant for each other and lived a loving and supportive life together. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Charles Russell Hudson, the father of her three children.
Esther never dwelled on hard times or loss. She had the ability to overcome whatever life sent her way and moved on with a great deal of grace, inner strength and a strong faith. Esther's favorite color was red, her favorite flower was the rose, both exemplifying the passion and beauty with which she approached life.
Esther considered herself very lucky to have lived 86 years. She did not always have good health but she always had the right attitude which exuded a quiet dignity. Modesty would keep her from recognizing her own goodness but she was one of this earth's kindest souls. She always accepted others, their ways and beliefs, even when she did not approve. She had good humor, poked fun at herself, and loved game shows, playing cards and tending to her small garden. Esther had a knack for attracting and connecting with children, who loved and respected her for her loving ways. She had an extraordinary laugh when she was filled with fun and joy. She was an avid crocheter, an excellent cook and baker. In short, Esther loved whatever revolved around her home and family and friends.
In addition to her children, Esther leaves behind 4 grandchildren; Jessica McNeal (Rudy), Nathan St. Germain, Adrienne Esther Klein (Ben Breier), Brooklyn, NY and Evan Klein, Cincinnati, OH; and 3 great grandsons, Jaxon, Ian and Hudson. Esther was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and a good friend. In short, a tremendous human being. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
