Obituary

Ethel passed away surrounded by family on September 6, 2017 at Hospice of NWO. In Ethel's own words: She was born on December 18, 1919 in Toledo to Karl and Lillian (Mominee) Scheidler. It was also her father's birthday. Enrolled at old Sherman School where she met William L. Bondy, her husband to be. They both graduated from there and entered Old Woodward High School. They learned to love dancing to "Star Dust" at Woodward sponsored dances. They studied catechism with Rev. John C. Geiser at old First Reformed Church and were confirmed there. Ethel graduated from Woodward High School in 1938, Bill in 1937. They married on December 30, 1941 and enjoyed 67 happy years together and with much loved family members. They maintained a home in Bradenton, Florida for 30 years. Ethel had enrolled in Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and William (Bill) began his military career with the Ohio National Guard, serving 39 months in the Southwest Pacific during WWII with honors. He was also appointed to the Toledo Fire Department while overseas. She had successfully passed her Ohio State Board exam to become an R.N. She spent her entire professional nursing career at Mercy Hospital, serving in the ER, newborn nursery and the Obstetrical department, where as an RN, she assisted the obstetricians in the birth of two of her grandchildren. Because of interest, concern, support and love for her family, she enhanced their interests by devoting quality time in various ways for and with them. She encouraged an interest in music to additional family members. She and Bill built a home near both mothers to better care for them. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She taught Sunday school to elementary and adult classes. She was president to the early Ohio National Guard Women's Association. She was attentive to the Mothers' Club at old Beverly School and, with her husband, supported the Beverly Parent and Teachers Association. She loved reading and was a cancer survivor. She was a member of the Oregon Senior Center. She touched many lives and grieved the loss of family members and many friends. She will be profoundly missed. Ethel was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, her parents, her husband, his parents, sister Helen Benschoter, brother-in-law James V. Benschoter and son-in-law, Mark Parr. Her father was the Fire Chief of the Toledo Fire Department in 1951 until his death in November 1952. She is survived by sister Ruth (Ed) Sloan, daughters Cheryl (Bob) Marquette, Linda Bondy Parr, five grandchildren, Lisa (Rodney) McCoy, Rob (Laurie Christy) Marquette, Kristen (Mitchell) Fagelman, Megan O'Dell Garcia, Patrick O'Dell and previous son-in-law, Larry O'Dell. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Logan O'Dell, Dominic Marquette, Liam and Lily Fagelman, Lauren and Lylah Garcia, Macklin O'Dell and step-great great grandson, Landon McCoy. Also surviving are nieces Joy Williams, Carol (Michael) Hathaway, Nephews, James Benschoter Jr., and David (Peggy) Sloan and long time devoted family friend Helen Ohle. Many thanks to the loving care and support of family, friends and Hospice of NWO. Services will be private.
