Obituary

Eugene Averkamp "Pa", 72, of Genoa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family December 29, 2009 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Dickeyville, WI. June 17, 1937 to Anton and Katherine (Reiter) Averkamp. Gene was employed with Powertrain for 22 years and was a veteran of the US Navy. On May 15, 1965, he married Kathy Smith.. Gene was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler. His true love was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gene is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy; daughters, Tammy (Aaron Michalski) Averkamp of Toledo, Gerri (Mike) Brossia of Woodville, Shelly (Troy) Schwamberger of Curtice; grandchildren, Megan, Erin, Zach, Jena; brothers, Joe and Dennis; sisters Lucy and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ben and Ed, sisters Gen, Margie, and Marie; and in-laws Leo and Wilma Smith. Friends and family may visit at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road Millbury on Saturday January 2nd from 1:00-6:00pm. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff in the East Wing for their special care and compassion.
