Eugene F. Metzger, 84, passed away on February 16, 2022 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. Gene was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 9, 1938 to Rudolph and Adeline (Pohlman) Metzger. He was a 1956 graduate of Macomber High School. Gene worked in the editorial department of the Toledo Blade for 38 years before retiring in 2000. He served 12 years as the Union President for the Toledo Typographical Union #63. In retirement, Gene enjoyed living in Ft. Myers, Florida for 15 years. He was a huge Duke Blue Devils fan and played many sports over the years including baseball, basketball, bowling, and horseshoes; even being crowned Eastside Horseshoe Champion. Gene's pride and joy was his family and his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his children, Lynn (Paul) Magdich, Laurie (Robert) Danahy, Julie (Doug) Taylor and Marc (Shannon) Metzger; grandchildren, Jacob (Ashley), Morgan (Patrick), Kyle, Rachel, Ian, Jack, Zac and Nick; and great grandchild, Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, LouAnne, and brothers Al and Norb.
His family will always remember him for the way he put his family first, loved unconditionally, and always had a listening ear and wise counsel.
According to Gene's wishes, funeral services will be private, arranged by Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Gene's honor may consider donations to Oregon Health & Welfare Christmas Program.
