Evelyn M. Hartman passed away on April 6, 2002 at Northcrest Nursing Home in Napoleon, Ohio, where she
had been a resident since June, 2001. She was born in Petersburg, MI on July 8, 1910 to John and Eva
Barkenquest. She graduated from Dundee High School as valedictorian of the class of 1927. She married
George Hartman, Sr., of Toledo, Ohio in May of 1931 and lived most of her life in their East Toledo home. She
as a "stay at home mom", but was very involved in outside activities. She was a member of Samagama having
been president of both the Oakdale School Mother's Club and the University of Toledo Chapter of Sigma Phi
Epsilon. She was also an active member of the Waite High School Band Parents Association, the Brotherhood
of Locomotive Engineers Auxiliary and volunteered her services to many charitable organizations.
Her parents, her brother Hehr and her husband, George, Sr. preceded her in death. She is survived by her son
George, Jr. (Leslie), six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 11:00 am in the
Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road at Starr Ave. Oregon, OH with
interment to follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
The family wishes to especially thank Drs. Janine Huttner and Rebecca McClarren, and the staff at Northcrest
Nursing Home for their care and compassion. It was Evelyn's wish that tributes be in the form of donations to a
local charity providing for the homeless.
