Obituary

Evelyn was born on July 18, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA to Esther and William Hardt. Soon the family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she grew up. Her father died when she was quite young. Evelyn graduated from South High School in 1936, and then attended the Vocational Arts Center in Columbus, OH. She then served for several years as secretary to the editor of the Lutheran Standard, located in Columbus. Evelyn married Pastor Gerhardt Wiegand in 1944, and they served Lutheran churches in New Haven, MI; Malcom, IA; West Ida and Monroe (Raisinville), MI; and New Lebanon, OH. She kept her secretarial skills up as the church secretary for her husband in the various parishes he served, none of which had permanent secretarial help when they arrived. Gerhardt died suddenly in 1962, and then she and the children (Jeanne, Anne, and Gary) moved to Columbus, OH, where she served as office secretary in the Lutheran Welfare Council of Ohio. In 1969 she married Pastor Charles Willmann and moved to Toledo, OH, where her husband was serving St. Mark Lutheran Church. From 1971 until 1987 she was a secretary at the Lutheran Homes Society, Toledo, mostly serving as secretary to her husband when he was Development Director. It was during this time that the Lutheran Home Society built the Care Center on Toledo'™s East Side, Wolf Creek, The Lutheran Home at Napoleon, and many other facilities in Northwest Ohio. Charles Willmann died in December 2003. In recent years, Evelyn was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the women'™s circle, the Guild of the Lutheran Home and its Day Center as long as her health permitted. She was exceedingly disappointed when she was no longer capable of doing altar care a few years ago. Music was always a large part of her life, as were photography and rock collecting. She never heard a hymn she didn'™t want to sing, a family gathering she didn'™t want to document, or a geode she didn'™t marvel at. Her survivors include her children Jeanne (Pastor Jim) Zingale, Youngstown, OH; Anne Kershner, Dayton, OH; and Gary (Heather Bradley) Wiegand, Toledo, OH; and stepchildren Karen (Ted) Davies, Casa Grande, AZ; Pastor Ron (Barbara) Willmann, Columbus, OH; and Ardith Willmann, Toledo, OH. She is also survived by grandchildren Chris (Michele) Prysock and Joel (Zalika) Prysock, Kimberly (Philip Zelnar) Zingale, Robert Zingale, Matthew (Joe) Willmann, Sarah Fetters, and Andrew (Kerri) Willmann. A number of cousins, nieces, nephews, 8 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild also survive her. Her husbands and siblings David Hardt, Marian Jeffries, and Jeannette Foreman predeceased her. Evelyn died on December 6 in Hospice of NW Ohio, Toledo, after a brief illness. Always looking for ways to make her life useful, she has donated her body to the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo. Arrangements are conducted through Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon, OH. A memorial service will be in the chapel at the Lutheran Home at Toledo on December 22 at 11:00am with reception to follow. Suggested memorials are the Lutheran Home at Toledo, St. Mark Lutheran Church (Toledo), Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or the donor'™s choice. Visitation: Oregon Chapel Sunday December 21 2-7 pm Services: Lutheran Home at Toledo Monday December 22 11:00 am
