Ezra Prater, 76, of Oregon, Ohio passed away February 2, 2009, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. He was born in Salyersville, KY to Charlie and Roxie (Allen) Prater on August 15, 1932. Ezra had been employed by the CSX Railroad for 37 years as a yard hostler. He also was a skilled carpenter tradesman for many years, and his motto was "measure twice, cut once". Ezra could do anything, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting. Ezra was very personable and a great story teller. Every man, woman and child he met loved him. Surviving are his children, Barbara (Ernie) Frye and Becky (Terry) Sargent; daughter-in-law, Marie Lawson; brothers and sisters, Lacy (Anna) Prater, White (June) Prater, Windle Prater and Lois Prater; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous special nieces and nephews. Ezra was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Faye; son, Joseph Lawson; brothers, Danny and Roosevelt; sister, Ethel Powers. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
