Obituary

Fern L. Martin passed away peacefully at her home at the Genoa Retirement Village on April 4, 2008. She was born in Withamsville, Ohio, on July 14, 1913, to Nora and Christopher Hultz. Fern moved to Curtice, Ohio, in 1935. She worked at Stokely's in Curtice until 1941. When her first husband, Carlos Roye, died in 1941, she went to work at Dunn Motors on the grease racks, taking over Carlos' job. She was one of the first women in the area to take over what was known at that time as a man's job. On October 11, 1945, she married Harold Martin, together they ran the Martin Supply Store in Curtice from 1956 until 1978. Harold preceded her in death in 1981. She has been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Williston, Ohio, since 1945, where she was a member of Rachel Circle. She was honored as the Matriarch of the church, since she was the oldest living woman of the church. Fern was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, Fern was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Moritz. Surviving are her children, Judy (Dean) Buhrow, Ronald (Betty) Martin, Donald Martin, and son-in-law, Merle Moritz; 10 grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Betty Caldwell. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Rt. 579, Williston, Ohio, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
