Obituary

Fillamay Mary Bailon, age 84, lost her valiant battle with Alzheimer's Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Orchard Villa. Born Philomena Rato to Italian immigrants Luigi (Louis) and Vita Maria (Schiavone) Rato on November 3, 1924 in Monroe , Michigan . The family moved to the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo in 1927. Fillamay, known to her classmates as Mary, attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from Waite High School in 1942. On April 3, 1948 she married Alfred Bailon at Saint Thomas Aquinas. Fillamay worked as a bookkeeper for W.T. Grants, J. C. Penny and the C.P.A. firm of Tucker, Stein & Kissling retiring in 1987. She was active in the Mother's Guild at Saint Thomas Aquinas where she helped open and organize the school library. She also became a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters' troops. When her daughters' attended the new Cardinal Stritch High School Fillamay and Alfred helped organize the first Band Boosters. After retirement Fillamay and Alfred enjoyed bowling, traveling, dancing and walking. Fillamay will be very much missed by her loving husband, Alfred of 61 years, her daughters Mary Lou Fairchild (Denny) and Lynnette Rarick; 3 grandchildren, Amy and Jeremey, Joy Yard (Brian) and Scott Fairchild. 2 great granddaughters Olivia Grace and Gabriella Rose. Fillamay was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Rato and Allessandro (Leeza) Rato who was killed during World War II. Visitation will be held in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel from 2 to 9 Wednesday. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 and continue to St. Thomas Aquinas Church for the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Donations in Fillamay's honor may be made to either the Alzheimer's Research Foundation or Kateri Catholic Academy-Toledo Campus formerly St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides of Bayshore Commons at Orchard Villa. Visitation: Wednesday, 2-9 p.m. Services: Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Interment: St. Ignatius Cemetery
