Flora (Huff) Poad, 92, or Oregon, Ohio passed away on August 18, 2014 at her home. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia, October 8, 1921 to Thomas F. and Ethelind (Wertz) Huff. She married James Poad, a US Postal Carrier. They were married 24 years. Mr. Poad is deceased. Mrs. Poad attended Radford University; Ohio University; Ohio Northern University, B.S. Degree in Education; University of Toledo, M.A. Degree in Library Science. She worked as a Librarian supervisor at Oregon Schools for 32 years administrating over 9 libraries. She also worked for the University of Toledo in the reference department (16 years). She was also a teacher in the Library Science Department of The University of Toledo. She was a Martha Holden Jenkins Scholar from 1970 - 2014, a member of Kappa Delta Pi (educational) and Phi Kappa Phi (Scholarship). She was a member and held offices in Delta Kappa Gamma, Pi Lamda Theta, Ohio Association of School Librarians (editor 1968-1972) (vice president and president 1972-1973), Ohio Education Association, American Library Association, Ohio Library Association, Ohio Reading Association, Ohio School Supervisors Association, and the Educational Media Council of Ohio. She served as an evaluator for the State Department of Education and served on many state committees. Flora was also active in Faith United Methodist and served the local Cancer Society, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels and worked for Helping Hands. Mrs. Poad was a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years. Flora is survived by her daughters, Peggy, Betty Anne and Lucinda; her grandchildren, Joe, Jimmy and Rebecca; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Adelynn; half brothers, Robert, Woody and David; sister, Fran; and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Rev. Stanley Benton and James Poad; and daughter, Mary Jo Vaillant. Friends and family may visit Faith United Methodist Church, 3415 Starr Ave. Oregon, Ohio, on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church.
