Florence Eleanor Nightingale Brown, 89, of Streetsboro, Ohio and formerly of east Toledo and Oregon passed away on Friday, May 25, 2007, in Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Florence was born on September 20, 1917, in Toledo to Samuel and Ella Mae (Scott) Nightingale. She was the widow of Clarence A. Brown. Florence was a graduate of Clay High School and received her Bachelor and Master's degree in Education from the University of Toledo. Mrs. Brown was a teacher for the Toledo Board of Education where she taught at Garfield, Birmingham and Navarre Schools on the eastside for over 25 years before her retirement. Florence was a member of East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she taught Sunday School, sang alto in the choir, was a leader in the Christian Women's Fellowship and served as a deaconess. She was also a member of Church Woman United, Toledo Federation of Teachers and the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her sons, Wayne Brown of Columbus, Dr. H. Wesley Brown of Rocky River and David (Rebecca) Brown of Streetsboro; brother, Neal (Mary) Nightingale of Sun City Center, FL; grandsons, Eric, Aaron, Nathan, Matthew and Alexander; granddaughters, Lydia, Rachel and Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mona Jane Milne, Nancy High and Ellamae Dodds and brothers, Homer, Samuel and James Nightingale.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in East Christian Church, 525 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Friends may call in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Rd. where visitation will be Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Florence's memory may be made to East Christian Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
