Francis P. Drechsler, known to many of his friends as "Francie", died at The Toledo Hospital on Saturday, January 28, 2006, after a brief illness. He was 78 years old, having been born July 26, 1927, in Alburg, VT. His father, Francis A. Drechsler, was a YMCA secretary who was posted there at the time. Subsequent assignments took the family to Wyoming, California and Pennsylvania before settling in Peru, IN, where Francie spent his boyhood and young adult years. He was the manager of the Peru High School football and basketball teams, was a member of First Baptist Church in Peru, a member of the William B. McClintic Chapter of the Order of DeMolay and was known for being very sociable. He attended Franklin College and Indiana University. He maintained an interest in Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
In 1966 Francis moved to Toledo to live with his parents who had been transferred there in 1956. He worked at the Railroad YMCA and then took a position as social case worker at the Lucas County Job and Family Services Agency, where he served for 25 years. He was an excellent swimmer and also studied boating and navigation at the Toledo Power Squadron. He was an usher, trustee and deacon at Second Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Adriel Fellowship. When that congregation merged in 1966 with Riverside Baptist Church and Trinity. Baptist Church of Maumee to form the Cass Road Baptist Church he became a charter member of the new congregation.
Francis was pre-deceased by his parents, Francis A. and Alice P. Drechsler, and by his brother, William Glenn Drechsler. He is survived by his sister, Winifred Drechsler Dodge and her husband, the Rev. Paul S.
