Frank S. Bukovics, 88, of Toledo passed away peacefully just before his 89th birthday on March 1, 2007 at Harborside Health Care. A US Navy veteran, Frank served on the USS Roper and commissioned the USS Jeffers as a Plank Owner and Chief Machinist during WW II. A graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1937, he was a passionate violinist until his World War II injuries. He worked for many years on the Great Lakes boats including the Edmund Fitzgerald. He also spent many years working for MEBA with the American President Shipping Lines, sailing in foreign waters. He will be best remembered as a loving, generous brother, uncle and friend.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen (Fabian) Bukovics; his beloved brother, John and sister, Sr. Mary Eileen D.D.C. He leaves behind cherished memories for his beloved brother, Ernest (Caroline) Bukovics; nephews, Ernest (Ester) Bukovics, Stephen (Mei Hwa) Bukovics; nieces, Becky (Robert) Jones, Diana (Mark) Munger and Caroline Miller; five great nephews and one great niece.
A lifelong member of St. Stephen's Catholic Parish, Frank's services will be held on Thursday beginning with prayers in the funeral home at 9:30 am and proceeding to the church for the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call in the Kinsey Funeral Home 2001 Consaul Street where visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 pm. with the Rosary being recited at 4:00 pm. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Contributions from family and friends may be made according to their personal wishes.
