Frank H. Gerrard peacefully passed away at home March 4, 2013 at the age of 90. He was born in the old Toledo neighborhood of 'œPeanut Hill' at Oak and Oakdale. He was eighth of ten children born to John and Delta (Cochern) Gerrard. Frank is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nyla; sons, David, Mark (Ruth Ann), Paul (Barbara) and Matthew (Sheron); 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Vicario, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Frank in death were his parents, John and Delta; son, John; sisters, Grace and Vera; brothers, Leonard, Paul, Richard, Wayne, Eddie and Robert.
Frank graduated from Waite High School in 1941 and entered the University of Toledo. When war broke out, he enlisted in the Marine Corps serving in the South Pacific. He took up boxing at Waite and continued boxing in the Marine Corps entertaining the troops with boxing exhibitions. After a professional career in the ring, Frank trained many promising boxers in the area including Pat (Spunkey) Lowrey who attained world ranking. Boating and fishing were his favorite pastimes.
Frank and Nyla traveled to over 30 countries after his 30 year career at Ohio Bell. He was Vice President of Northwood Vending and was known for contributing and donating food to charities and people in need. Generosity has always been Frank'™s trademark. Frank was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church for 63 years.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Friday, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Street, on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. with interment following in Willow Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider First St. John Lutheran Church.
