Fred W. Galla, Sr., 92, of Toledo, passed away on May 14, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 9, 1926 to Carl and Cecilia (Pelzman) Galla. Fred graduated from Macomber High School and went on to serve in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked as a car inspector for CSX Railroad for 42 years before retiring in 1988. Fred enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, GAF, Swiss Club and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Fred is survived by his children, Mary Haefner, Fred (Joann) Jr., Teresa Aldrich, Christine (William) McAllister, Diana Herr, John Galla, Patricia (Alan) White, Joseph (Christine) Galla, Ann (Bill) Engle; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Daisy.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at Epiphany of the Lord –St. Thomas Parish, 729 White St. at 11:00 a.m. where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to the hospice nurses and staff for all of their loving care.
