Frederick "Fred" J. West, 70, of Oregon, passed away on July 30, 2022 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. The youngest of 5 boys, Fred was born at Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Ohio on February 21, 1952 to Richard and Mary (Menden) West. Fred was a graduate of Clay High School and a member of St. Ignatius Church. He retired from Jeep after 33 years and moved on to work for Kuka for an additional 11 years. He married the love of his life Connie (Bittner) July 6, 1973. Fred always enjoyed working on cars for himself, friends, and family. His interest in cars began when he was a young boy, around 10. In their younger years you would find Fred and Connie spending their Sundays at Toledo Speedway or at the drags in Milan or Norwalk. You could find Fred working in his garage at any hour of the day or night with an extra-large Tim Hortons coffee or an ice cold pepsi in his hand. He enjoyed going to car shows, races, watching wrestling, action movies, Ohio State Football and playing with his grandchildren. He has been described by many in his family as the guy you could call on for anything, a laid-back chilled guy, a jokester, a guy who was willing to go out of his way to help someone in need, especially his family. His sense of humor was accompanied with a mischievous smirk and smile. Throughout his life he had a multitude of friends that he cherished and would do anything for. He loved and was very proud of each of his 3 children and adored his 6 grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Connie: children, Jonathan (Karen) West, Chad (Lindsey) West and Jessica (Chris) Avery; grandchildren, Keaton, Emilee, Colton, Zayden, Hensley and Cayden; and brother, Robert West. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Richard (Dick) West, John West and Joseph (Joe) West.
