Gabriel F. (Gabe) Imre, 88, was called Home to be with our Lord, on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Sunset House, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was born on April 3, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio, to Gabor and Mary (Farkas) Imre. Gabe was raised in the Hungarian neighborhood of Birmingham, attending St. Stephen's School, and graduating from Macomber High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served as a Seaman 1st Class in the South Pacific Theater, once serving aboard the USS Fremont, and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his service, Gabe attended Toledo University and then attended radio school, where he received his FCC license. Gabe worked as a communications technician for AT&T for 35 years before retiring in 1986. It was at AT&T where he met his wife, Mary Clare Stoepler, whom he married on May 17, 1958. Mary Clare preceded him in death on July 20, 1974, leaving him to raise their seven children by himself. Gabe was a faithful, life-long member of St. Stephen's Church, where he volunteered for many years, and had participated in the Hungarian Bethlehemes Christmas play for many years. Gabe loved to bowl, hunt and fish on his boat. Upon retirement, he traveled extensively throughout the world, and visited every state in the U.S. In recent years, Gabe was proudly able to be a part of the First Honor Flight to see the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. Gabe was a charter member of VFW Post 4906, and was a member of the American Legion. Gabe was also a member of the Hungarian Club of Toledo, Telephone Pioneers of America, a lifetime member of the NRA, and a member of the former Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #197 in Toledo, serving as President. Gabe was very devoted to his faith and family, above all else. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom he spoke of constantly.
Gabe is survived by his children, Mary (Doug) Eble, Joseph (Stephanie) Imre, Anne Marie (Dale) Brossia, John (Theresa) Imre, Suzanne (Dennis) Brewer, Kathleen (Terrence) Pollauf, and Stephen (Kathy) Imre; grandchildren, Michael, Eric (Andrea), Kevin (Hallie) Eble, Amber (Shane Maples) Sawyer, Joseph Imre, Jr., Meghan E. Besides his wife and parents, Gabe was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Elmer, and his grandson, Zachary David Brossia.

We deeply appreciate all that you have done for our Dad.
