Garey L. Tschappat, 71, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Garey was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 1, 1943 to Edward and Virginia (Weaver) Tschappat. He was a 1962 graduate of Waite High School and attended the University of Toledo. In 1965, Garey was drafted into the US Army and served in the Medical Corps during Vietnam. On March 21, 1970, he married Gloria McAvoy. For 34 years, Garey worked as a cereal chemist with Nabisco and retired in 2000. He was a member of the American Cereal Chemist Society. Garey was a member of Holy Rosary and Sacred Heart Parishes. His hobbies included: stamp collecting, watching movies, and was a true history buff. His true passion was feeding Miss Hissy – the goose and the ducks near his home.
Garey is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria; sons, Eric (Nicole) Tschappat and Terry (Bonny) Tschappat; grandchildren, Paul & Ava Tschappat; brother, Edward (Ann) Tschappat; beloved pets, Pio, Becca, and Tunis; along with many loving family members and longtime friends, Bill, Gary, Dan, Mike, Larry, Fred, Sam, Jim, and Ken. He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, William Weaver.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 am in Epiphany of the Lord Parish – St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 729 White Street, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in the form of contributions to Epiphany of the Lord Parish, Senior Independence Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice. Garey's family wishes to thank the staff of Senior Independence Hospice; especially nurse Chris, along with caregivers Bonny and Jodi for the loving care given to Garey.
