Garnett Roberts, 78, of Toledo, OH, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2005, in St. Charles Mercy Hospital. He was born in Panther, W. Virginia, on December 19, 1926, to Neil and Nancy (Bailey) Roberts. Garnett served in the US Navy during WW II. He was employed with the US Steel Coal Mines in Gary, WV, and then by American Ship Building for 22 yrs., retiring in 1986 as a crane operator. Mr. Roberts was a member of VFW Post #2984 Northwood and Boilermakers Union Local 85. Garnett loved his grandchildren very much and also loved fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Faye, in March of 2005.
Surviving are his children, Freda Beltran and Robin Scott (Debbie); grandchildren, Cindy (Frank) Underwood, Clayt Beltran, Jeremy Schmidlin, Taylor Roberts and Joshua Cooper; great-grandchildren, Haley and Dylan Underwood and Zachary Schmidlin; brother, Archie (Janice) of Tazwell, VA; special friends, Brenda and Larry and many nieces and nephews. Garnett also was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers and 7 sisters.
Family and friends may visit from 2 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2005, in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Contributions in Garnett's name can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Charles Hospital through out the years and a special thanks to Donna Annatra and Kay. Also a special thanks to Dr. David Atwell for not only being a great pulmonary specialist, but also being a friend to our father and family.
