Gary R. DeWitt, 62, of Oregon, Ohio passed away suddenly on August 4, 2011 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. He was born on January 4, 1949 to Robert and Jean (Warnke) DeWitt. Gary worked for Hausman Steel Corp. for 20 years and most recently owned and operated DeWitt Rebar until he retired in 2007. He also was the Assistant District Fire Chief of Oregon #3 for 22 years, a member of Clay High School Boosters, HVYC, and was past president of the First St. John Lutheran Church Congregation and a current member of the Finance Committee.
Gary is survived by his wife Penny; mother, Jean DeWitt; daughter, Lori (Ben) Pfeiffer; son, Matthew (Laura); brother, Tom (Virginia) DeWitt of Jackson, Tennessee; sister, Terry (Jay) Dellinger; beloved grandchildren, Derek and Nicholas Pfeiffer, Brandon and Ian DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with Oregon Volunteer Fire Department services at 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman St. on Thursday beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by Oregon Volunteer Fire Department Last Alarm Services. Interment will follow at North Oregon Cemetery.
