Gene Belinske, age 73, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, after a long and courageous battle with cancer and kidney disease. Gene was born in Toledo on March 2, 1935, to Joseph and Wilma (Langley) Belinske. He was a retired Toledo Police officer who graduated from Woodward High School in 1953. Gene was a member of the Toledo Police Patrolmen Association and over the years had enjoyed golf, tennis, walking, jogging; running the Blade Run in the early 1980's. Gene also had a real love for war history.
Gene is survived by daughters, Terry Skiba of Perrysburg and Linda Belinske of Tampa, Florida; sons, Gene (Deb) Belinske of Brooker, Florida, and Chad Belinske of Toledo; grandchildren, Kristy (Tim) Weaver, Kelly Skiba, and Dalton Belinske; great-granddaughter, Ava Weaver; sister, Marilyn Gatewood; brother, Joseph (Sandra) Belinske III; and loving pet and companion, Sophie. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family may call at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Friday, May 2, 2008, 4 - 8 p.m., and where his funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Gene's memory are asked to consider the American National Kidney Foundation or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to express a special thank you to all the staff of Davita Dialysis, St Charles Mercy Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio and to neighbors, friends and private care givers for all the compassion and support provided to Gene during his illness.
