George D. Bittner, 91, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015. George was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 24, 1924 to Albert and Lavon (Sager) Bittner. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. On January 3, 1951, he married the love of his life Peggy Yarcso. George worked for 36 years with Ohio Bell as a repair technician and was active with the Telephone Pioneers in retirement. His memberships included: Toledo United Swiss, American Legion Post # 334, VFW Post # 9816, along with Second Baptist and Cass Road Baptist Churches. George & Peggy enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. His true passion was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy; children, Albert (Lynne) Bittner, Connie (Fred) West, David (Dawn) Bittner, and Betsy (Ron) Sutphin; grandchildren, Lisa, Connie Lynn, Jon (Karen), Chad, Jessica, Stephanie (Mickey), Mike, Robert (Michelle) , Kimberly, Karen (Bill), and Michelle (Diego); 8 great-grandchildren; special niece, Bonnie Clark; dog, Katy; along with many loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Albert and Dick.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Toledo Humane Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
