Flavell, George Edward Sr. "Ed", 80, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 in Fl. Lauderdale. Born November 24, 1924 in Toledo, OH to George Fredrick and Pearl Flavell.
He was permitted by Libbey High School to attend his senior year as a freshman at the University of Toledo. At age 18 he joined the Army and served in the European Theatre until the end of WWII. Upon return the University he pledged Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, and went on to the University of Michigan and completed his graduate studies and married Nancy Vasold in 1952.
His career in Toledo included Brush Beryllium, S.M. Jones Co. and Mather Spring. In 1965 he moved his family to Ft. Lauderdale, where he was employed with IBM, in Boca Raton for 22 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed splitting their year between homes in Ft. Lauderdale and Waynesville, NC.
Ed was preceded in death by his son; Philip, and 2 sisters; Gladys Kline, of Toledo, and Evelyn Dunmier of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is survived by his wife Nancy, of 52 years, sons; James (Leslie) George Jr., 4 grandchildren; Malcom, Jonathan, Brigitte, and Marshall, and his sister Doris (James) Jenkins, of Hanover, MA. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at Toledo Memorial Park. Family suggests memorials in his memory to White-Flavell Childrens Fund c/o First Presbyterian Church, of Ft. Lauderdale, 401 SE 15th Ave. Ft. Lauderdale, FL. 33301.
