George J. Gancsos Sr., 81, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away in the comfort of his home with family by his side, after a courageous battle with sarcoma cancer, Wednesday, April 11, 2018. George was born on February 7, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to George and Theresa (Domonkos) Gancsos. He was a 1955 graduate of Waite High School where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Taylor and married on August 9, 1958. In 1993, George retired from Toledo Edison after 31 years of service. He was a devoted member of Calvin United Church of Christ where he served on the consistory, member of the Auxiliary Kolbasz Makers, served on the Audit Committee, along with the Sanctuary Committee. He was a member of the Greater Beneficial Union (GBU) and Oregon Senior Center. George was a 59 year member of Paragon Masonic Lodge #788 and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo. He loved attending his children's and grandchildren's school and sporting events. George was an avid traveler; visiting many states and countries; along with many cruises. He enjoyed NASCAR, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Detroit Tigers.
George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; children, George (Teresa) Gancsos Jr., and Sheri (Rick) Easterwood; grandchildren, Christopher and Lauren Gancsos and Nicholas and Tahler Easterwood; and sister, Priscilla (Ron) Badik. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 South Coy Road on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm where a Paragon Masonic Lodge Service will be held at 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell Street, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Calvin United Church of Christ. George's family wishes to thank the staff of Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their compassionate care; along with Pastor Mary Wood and church family for their prayers and support. George was proud of his Hungarian Heritage: Isten Ald Meg a Magyar. So mote it be.
